TED Talks Every African Must Watch

RESHAPING AFRICA'S NARRATIVE






Without a speck of doubt, Africa is full of opportunities, possibilities and greatness ;the passionate young people, great leaders, resources, culture, resilience, ubuntu , the list goes on.... it is with utmost optimism that I can declare that the 21st century will be Africa's century in every respect. It is my hope that these TED videos will help to bring this about. Enjoy!

1. The Most Motivational Talk by An African Young Man

 Fred Swaniker founded a school and a leadership network to educate and support the next generation of Africa’s leaders.He observes that good leaders can't make much of a difference in societies with strong institutions such as strong judcial systems, senates and national assemblies. However, in countries with weak structures, leaders could make or break a country because it almost always depends on individuals which direction a country will take. In a passionate call, Fred presents an already successful means to develop the leadership of the future.


2. Who gets Rich by begging... 


Andrew Mwenda in this talk glances a critical eye at Aid in the African continent. Mwenda argues that the talk has come at an oportune time when the G8 Summit is proposing that Aid to Africa should be increased. he vehemently disagrees. Rather he sees the solution to Africa's economic challenge to be an internal one - involving the local people in trade, work and economic, institutional and political reform...






3. Zambia's "Spectator Mindset"


Challenged and provoked by Aliko Dangote's comment on the absence of Zambians in the business world, Monica resigns her law career with Africa's wealthiest man, Dangote for what has become one of the most successful  indigenous firms in the country. she notes that most Zambians lack the courage to brave the storm and conquer the "spectator mindset." For  her it began with noodles...



4. Restoring The Ubuntu spirit - For Mandela


 A talk given in honour of Nelson Mandela on the very day on which he dies, Boyd Varty, a South African and wildlife activist, shares stories of animals, humans and their interrelatedness, or "ubuntu". Boyd challenges us to imbibe the great values of the great-hearted and to carry on what Mandela stood for 



5. How to Help Africa 



Is Africa merely a land of disease, death, famine, poverty, corruption or may be there is another side to the story which is never told; an Africa of opportunities and possibilities. In this Talk Ngozi, former Managing Director of the world Bank accuses the west of cooperating in the surge of corrupt governance in Africa....





6. "...Africa is not Poor, It is poorly Run"


 In her characteristic prose and eloquence, Kah Walla, a Cameroonian social Activist and politician and entrepreneur argues in this Ted talk that Africa is rising. Africa produces 60% of global cobalt, 78% of global platinum, 57% of global diamond and magnesium. Walla points to poor governance as the main cancer...

 


7. Providing a New Narrative about Africa


Komla Dumor (1972-2014) A brilliant mind, jovial, talented, enthusiastic and charismatic voice tells the story of Africa in a way you have never heard before.... "Hire the best talent to tell the story"
